According to the official document of Tidal Finance, RPs often increase the insurance cost for increasing their capital returns as a result of the low efficiency of insurance capital. This compels the insurance purchasers to pay a higher rate for purchasing the insurance of their covered protocols than the actual yield of underlying protocols. Tidal Finance protocol aims to offer highly competitive insurance premiums by allowing the capital of RPs to achieve more exposure to multiple protocols. This results in decreasing the price of each protocol's premium and increasing the return of RP's capital.

Tidal Finance aims to enable the RPS to create mutual insurance pools to stake their stablecoins. In return, the RPs gain two incentives: Stablecoin premium paid by the insurance purchasers; and the TIDAL governance token, the native token of the platform, as an incentive for participating in the Tidal Finance ecosystem.

The Tidal Finance ecosystem aims to allow the RPs to select a pool consisting of different tools or protocols they prefer to cover and to provide capital to such mutual insurance pools. Additionally, the ecosystem aims to provide insurance purchasers with crucial metrics like premiums, pool insolvency risk, and reserve capital pool for ensuring complete transparency and disclosure.

According to the litepaper of Tidal finance, the ecosystem provides two types of native cryptocurrencies: TIDAL cover tokens and TIDAL governance tokens. TIDAL cover tokens offer the token holders the right to receive a payout if covered protocols and assets fail. The TIDAL governance token is meant for governing every aspect of the Tidal Finance protocol. TIDAL governance token holders can vote on protocol governance proposals and assess claims on the disputed mutual cover.
